Keywords Research Tips,Keywords,Effective Keyword Research.

Every time you create content for your website, blog or article, you'll need to consider what keywords to use. Keywords are essential to driving targeted traffic to your pages so that people can see what it is you are offering.

What are keywords?

They are words that everyday people are typing into a search engine, like Google, so that they can find what it is they are looking for - a product, service, or answer to a specific question or problem. An example of a common keyword is - apple. Okay, so thousands of people will search for something related to the word apple. Does this mean that if you use the word apple on your website that people will flock to see your pages?  No.

General keywords like apple are found on millions of websites and your chances of ranking well for that term are nil. So, let's go deeper into this keyword thing and come up with some keyword phrases that people are searching for. Here are some common keyword phrases for the word apple: Apple pie, Apple bottom, Apple ipod, Apple crisp recipe, Apple martini, Apple peeler, Apple stock, Apple macbook, Fiona apple mp3, Apple bank for savings

These are all phrases being typed into a search engine everyday by people looking for very specific information. So, while adding the word apple to your site will not have any benefits, using one of the above keyword phrases in your content could potentially bring you traffic by making it easier for your site to rank higher in the search engines.

As you can see, apple can mean different things to different people. If you have a recipe site, you'll benefit from using any keyword phrases related to cooking and serving apples. If you have a computer oriented site, you'll be using anything related to apple computer and its products. If your site talks about popular music, then maybe you'll have a need for the Fiona Apple keyword.

But shouldn't I have the right to put whatever content I want on my site regardless of these keywords? Sure, you can do that - but your site will more than likely be lost amongst the millions of unread and unseen pages in cyberspace. Not knowing how to research and use keywords properly is a major reason why newbies fail to get any traffic to their sites. If you want to succeed online, you'll have to master the use of keywords. Meaning, find a way to weave these keyword phrases into your content, but don't go overboard.

Keyword Research - Is It Necessary?

What is the key to becoming a successful internet marketer? Is keyword research necessary? Not only is it necessary, but it is vital to the success of your business! I'll tell you a little about research, some ways to perform research, and show you some of the great research tools that are available. Knowing how to get higher listings, knowing who your customers are, and knowing your competition is very important.

As with any business, a successful internet marketing campaign starts with lots of research. In the beginning and throughout my Ebay business experience, I have had to continually conduct research. Much of that research is the same for the affiliate marketing that I am now involved in, as well as other businesses that require selling a product. This research may include audience, keyword, industry, consumer habits, and competition. Research will allow you to determine if you should even be involved in a particular industry, thus saving valuable time that would otherwise be wasted chasing a venture that is either over saturated or in low demand.

Many people do not take the time to do adequate research before launching. They will grab a product that they are interested in, set up a campaign, and quickly go about the business of promoting. They believe they can make a quick success of it , but soon find out that they are going nowhere. These people lose hope and give up, believing that they cannot succeed in this business.

Any business that becomes successful, becomes successful because someone put a lot of serious work into it. Research does require work, but it will save time in the long run. It will allow you to find your exact audience, why they are in need of the product, tell you their demographics, what products are in that industry, and the best way to deliver the message to the audience.

Let's talk about keyword tools. Are they necessary? I think they are useful, but not necessary. They are useful for giving us ideas of new directions to go, that we otherwise would not have thought of. For the most part, the keywords from a keyword tool will be too broad. They generally will not reveal the highest converting keywords or reveal new products that have just been released.

The most important keyword research tool is your imagination. We all have it! It's in there somewhere. I can relate to this from my experience of writing songs. Sometimes, it just takes finding a quiet place and thinking hard. Think like a consumer. Think of reasons why the consumer may be looking for your product. For example, if I were a dog owner, I might go to Google and type in "best clippers for clipping dog toenails", or "dog keeps pooping on rug". Do you think a keyword tool would have found these terms for you without prior research?

I'm not saying you should throw out the keyword tools, altogether. They are great for giving you ideas and direction. I'm a subscribed member of KeyCompete.com, which provides some excellent keyword tools. Being a part of this program, I do not have to pay for other tools. With these tools, I can start with a broad term and work my way down to more targeted terms. The best keyword search tool you can use is the Google Keyword tool. It will give you very current results and very wide variations of a keyword. This can be accessed through your Adwords account or you can access a more limited one externally.

Do you know what your competition is doing? Google your product or niche and look at the keywords that are getting the good listings. At SpyFu, they have set up a system that allows for "spying" on the competition. It allows you to track what keywords other advertisers are using within Google and how long they are remaining under certain terms. If they are under those keywords for 3-4 weeks, you know that those keywords are profitable. Check back regularly to see if they are still promoting a particular industry. If so, they are probable having some success.

So how do you find these keywords?

There are several free resources online where you can do some basic keyword research. The best one of these is Wordtracker. You can find it by searching for Wordtracker free keyword tool. Wordtracker will give you the daily results for each word you research. Wordtracker also has a paid service that allows you to find more keywords than their free tool, and it also gives you better analysis.

There are also lots of keyword research software tools available. These tools range in price, but all of them pretty much do the same thing. They allow you to research an unlimited amount of keywords and keyword phrases. I won't recommend any particular one, but you can easily find many good ones online. The point is that since traffic is so hard to attract online, you need to make sure you use keywords to give you an advantage over your competition.

You need keywords which are frequently used by web users, yet not in high demand among your competitors. In order to find these keywords, there are many keyword research tools out thee which you can use. Other than Wordtracker, there are other tools including Google AdWords tool and Guidebeam.

Overture's keyword tool which used to be free and a bit more faster than Wordtracker; in terms of functionality, it was similar to Wordtracker but will not let you know how many other websites are targeting that keyword or key phrase. The tool though was discontinued; the alternative now is Google Keyword tool. If you feed in one word, this tool will give you all of the relevant combinations using this word along with the number of searches performed for them. If you entered something which is not being used very much, no results will come up; this tells you that few, if any searches have been done for that word or phrase.

Google Keyword Tool gives you potential keywords for use in your SEO and marketing efforts and gives you the Google statistics on these terms, along with their search engine usage (and trends in the frequency of searches for these terms). Other features of Google Keyword Tool include:

  • Sorting the results for your chosen keyword by popularity, history in the AdWords program, cost and predicted position.
  • Simple keyword manipulation - you can select keywords individually or add a large number at once.
  • Searching for keywords in any URL you specify. The tool can also search on pages linked to or from that URL.
  • The database of statistics is regularly updated, so that new keywords and key phrases are available as they come up.KeywordDiscovery:

KeywordDiscovery.com Keyword Research Tool is another good keyword tool. Search for a keyword or key phrase and it will also suggest related searches. The statistics it gives for each keyword or phrase is weighted by relevance. All of these keyword tools can be a great help to those who need to perform keyword research for the purposes of SEO for their own website.

Keyword Importance

To improve search engine rankings, the common technique that we use is listing the right keywords. It is extremely important choosing the most appropriate keyword for better search engine positioning. Keywords are words or concepts that are significant, in particular any word used as the key to a code or used in a reference work to link to other words or other information. We use keywords to find relevant and useful web pages or useful results in internet searches.

So you have to analyze your business carefully and think of all the keywords that relate to your company or product. If you are selling furnitures for example, then ask yourself what words would you search for when looking for the same product. You may ask other people, maybe your friends, to think about the same question. You also need to consider who will be needing your service. Then you may also include variations of the keywords for other may have misspelled keywords in their research and some other words may have variations. The more specific keywords you used, the better the chance that people who find your site through search engines will actually benefit from its content. The only thing you will avoid is putting the wrong keywords. If your keywords don't relate to your site's content you risk being penalized for spam.

Finding the right keywords is not that as easy as it may seem and the success of your website may depend on traffic directed from search engines; and to figure on a search engine you will have to optimize your site with relevant keywords.

Keywords are also important in link building. Keywords that are relevant can be used to make the link more user-friendly as well as help the search engine detect what the link is connecting to. It will help you get a higher ranking for those specific keywords included in your link. It also carries extra weight as another site is recommending your page for a particular keyword. Including relevant keywords in your title text and anchor text can improve your search engine placement a lot.

There are softwares that could suggest a good keyword for you. These tools could make an easy task for you but manual intervention is still somewhat important.

Examples of these tools are: an IM Toolpad, a powerful software suite for keyword brainstorming, web page analysis, web page tweaking, website monitoring, competition research, sales strategy implementation and more. KeywordPad, a Windows software for managing large keyword lists used in your Internet marketing campaigns such as organic search engine optimization, PPC advertisement campaigns, etc. You can use it to clean, modify and multiply your keyword lists. Then Good Keywords, a free Windows software for finding the perfect set of keywords for your web pages. It also includes a site popularity meter that allows you to measure your success by comparing your traffic with that of your competitors and a link popularity meter for checking how many sites link to you. There is also a Wordtracker that used to discover the best keywords for your website.

Massive Keyword Results for Your Website

Are you having trouble finding keywords to power your site? No problem! Every site owner needs to pay attention to keywords and what are the best ones to focus on in their pages and copy that will help drive traffic to them. Now of course when we say keywords one should realize that this encompasses phrases as well. Golf is a keyword. Golf vacation New Zealand is a keyword phrase. You have to think in terms of keyword phrases. This can be where the gold is in them thar Internet hills.

There are many great keyword research tools out there, but we recommend you start with the free tools before you get yourself into the more high powered ones that cost money each month. We use several of these tools in our keyword research.

Wordtracker has been an industry favorite for several years now. It is subscription service that has historically provided a free trial or a low cost per day usage option. It is a powerful tool once you learn how to use it properly. Wordtracker now has a free tool you can use and a report on how to do proper keyword research. Cool eh? Give it a try. Wordtracker

One of the other free tools for keyword research for your web site is Keyword Discovery. Keyword Discovery is a subscription service like Wordtracker buy they offer a free trial program as well. : Keyword Discovery. One tool that has come on the scene recently is The Dowser. They offer a free version to try out and we recommend you give it a look. The Dowser

Your main niche that you want to build your site around has to center on one specific keyword that you have found that has great numbers. You will be building a web site here that is designed to get you as much free traffic from the search engines as possible. Free organic search engine traffic is great, although it is not the only way you will want to build your site traffic over time.

Each page of your site will be focused on one specific keyword, and no page is more important than your home page. So, how do we measure what a great keyword is?

1) It has a demand of at least 30,000. If the traffic isn't there, it's not worth competing for. What if it's a little less? Well, if the supply and competition are weak, then that means you have a better chance to dominate, and that might work. There is definitely some gray area here.

2) Supply is no more than 2 to 3 times the demand. The whole idea here is to get into a market quickly and easily. When you are more experienced, then feel free to go after more challenging markets. For now, we want one that we have a great shot at being a leader in right away. That means having a reasonable amount of competition for those search engine rankings compared to demand.

3) You can tie a lot of other great keywords to it. Sometimes this step can be tough. Get creative. You will be building a whole site around this one central theme, so this is important. Once you have your central keyword, everything else starts falling into place.

For now, here's what you need to do: Find 20 to 25 great keywords on your chosen niche. If you do have your niche, then let's get started! You need to find 20 to 25 keywords to form the foundation of your site.

What do I mean? You should know that each page of the site you are about to start building will be focused on one keyword each. So, we want to find a list of great keywords, that you will build the first 20 to 25 pages of your site on. Odds are, you already have many of these. Remember that brainstorming you've already done? How many of those are really good? Heck you may already have this lesson done. So, now you're probably asking "How can I tell a great keyword to use as one of the first ones for my site?"

Load up your keyword research tool and try to give it a headstart on giving you good keywords to work with for your site. Don't load it up with some top level broad term like golf and expect to be able to drill down easily to keywords you can compete on in the search engines. Make a little effort to brainstorm the food you feed the tool and give it something more focused. For instance "golf vacations" or "left handed golf lessons". Then hit go. Sit back and gather the results.

We recommend you save your results in both text files and spreadsheet format files. That way you back up and you have different ways of using them. A spreadsheet version can be used to sort the words based on criteria while a text formatted list can be easily cut and pasted into other applications to utilize your keywords.

Look for the "long tail" keywords that you can rank well on in short order. By long tail we mean four or five word keyword phrases that have low competition and some traffic. These can be real gems for your business building efforts.
