You may think that the only things that can affect your job are your job performance and perhaps the state of the economy. What most dont realize is that they have to watch that they are working in a professional manner even when they are not technically on the clock. You have to conduct yourself in a way that gives the image of a self assured and moral person. If you are seen as a troublemaker in any way, or that you have questionable ethics or morals, you could find that you are out of work. This means paying attention to how you handle a work party.

You may not have to worry about a work party because you dont have any throughout the year, but most companies both large and small have at least one. These are great for employees to relax around each other, but those attending should not relax too much. Things can happen at a work party that can change the way that everyone you work with thinks of you, and that includes those that decide if you are going to stay in your position, stay with the company, or get a promotion. You always have to think of this when you attend such an event.

One thing you should remember is that gossip is not good on the job, and that stands true when you go to an office party. You have to think about what you are about to say and what that statement could reflect on you and your personality. Though what you are thinking about could be true, you should leave that sort of thing away from work and any work party. Not only could you get someone else in hot water for no reason, you are going to make yourself look bad. Stick to safe topics for the sake of your own reputation.

Also remember that you should not dress differently for a work party than you would at work. You dont have to wear work clothing by any means, but that might not be a bad idea. If you know the work party is going to be casual, go with causal dress, but watch what you choose. You should never wear something that could be seen as sexually suggestive. This means keep away from the low cut tops, tank tops, short-shorts, or skirts shorter than what you would consider when you were choosing what to wear to work each day.

Though the stories of the person making copies of various body parts in the copy room during a work party are funny, they should never be a reality for you. If you know that you loosen up a bit too much when you drink, you should probably pass when it comes time to go to your work party. If you can have a few and stop, there is nothing wrong with that. However, some know they cant stop once they start. If you are one of those, dont attempt even one if you value your job. People can make mistakes at office parties, of course, but the image of you stumbling drunk or sitting with your pants down on the company copier are not easily forgotten.
