When you are contemplating purchasing a treadmill to help you lose weight it is really important that you don’t get tempted by the first cheap machine you see. You should see a treadmill as a long term investment in your healthier, slimmer lifestyle and you could really live to regret buying a cheap machine.
A good treadmill runs approximately $1,000-$1,500 or more. Those that you find in stores for under $1,000 may prove to be quite a headache for you.
It’s worth paying a little more for a decent quality machine though because they usually come with a better warranty covering the motor, deck and other parts. The cheaper treadmills usually have a very limited warranty which expires more or less as soon as you get your treadmill home.
Many people invest in a treadmill so that they don’t have to pay more money to join a gym. But what if you buy a cheap treadmill with a 90 day warranty, and it breaks down four months later? If you then have to turn around and pay for another treadmill, you will have saved a dime.
When you use your treadmill as part of your exercise program, you are relying on the treadmill to support your body. Those people who jog or run on their treadmills will be putting even more stress and pressure on the machine.
A good quality treadmill is designed to be strong enough to cope with the impact of your body over an extended period of time. Cheaper treadmills like those found in discount stores are often not built to last more than a year at most. The motor will be strained as you use it, and the deck will quickly wear out as you work your way to a slimmer body.
If you decide to use the incline, or walk at a faster pace, the rollers to support the deck have extra work to do. Cheap or treadmills use cheaper parts, and eventually when one part gives out, you’re forced to fix it yourself with the part that you buy, or replace the entire machine completely.
Think about how you want to use short treadmill. If you plan on walking, frequently at a slow pace, then you should expect to pay about $1,000. If you jog, you’ll pay a little more for a decent machine — and if you’re a runner, plan to invest even more (approximately $2,000).
You will also get a number of benefits from purchasing a higher quality treadmill-for instance many have several pre-installed routines to really help you work out, not to mention longer and wider decks making them easier to use. Remember this treadmill is an investment in your long term fitness and weight loss plan, and by skimping on your equipment you may be able to save a few pennies right now, but in the long term you will actually save more money by investing in the very best you can afford.
