Muscle growth is important to almost everyone. Whether it is to fit into the new shirt you bought at the gap or simply to look good when you’re hanging out at the pool, most people want to have muscles they can show off or, at the very least, muscles that will not embarrass them in public.
Muscle growth is not something that occurs without help. You cannot simply sit at home on your couch and expect that your muscles will grow. In fact, even physical activities like sports and manual labor are not necessarily going to grow your muscles on their own either.
Keys to Muscle Growth
If you truly expect to experience effective muscle growth, you need to regularly perform the following activities regularly:
1) Resistance Repetitions
2) Proper Nutrition
3) Rest
Resistance repetition is essentially working out with weights. When your muscles are pushed by the weights, they start to gain cells and expand which is what causes visible muscle growth, and repetition is what allows those same muscles to build on regular strength.
Nutrition is needed in order to ensure that the muscles and cells do not start to fade away. Your muscle tissues require a great deal of proteins and carbohydrates in order to stay healthy. Without proper nutrition, the muscles start to fade away no matter how much you work out.
Resting is the final step towards effective muscle growth. The irony of resting is that while resting on its own does not gain muscles, a lack of rest can not only cause injury, but it also means that your muscles are not able to handle the resistance of the weights. Without rest you would require much lighter weights which would not provide enough resistance to make any noticeable difference.
Some More Muscle Mass Basics
An increase in muscle is known as “hypertrophy”. Hypertrophy is a complicated word for “tissue growth” - in this case, muscle tissues. When someone refers to hypertrophy exercises, they are most likely referring to exercises that are specifically designed to increase the size and strength of your muscles.
Another interesting fact about muscles is about how strength is improved. While any workout is going to improve your strength slightly, strength itself is not directly tied in with the visible size of your muscles. In fact, the more extensive the exercise, the more the muscles experience a twitching of the type II fibers, which results in an increase in strength beyond simply the appearance of your muscles.
A Body We Strive For
When we decide to increase the size of our muscles, we do so because we hope to experience the self confidence that comes seeing the physical changes that represent the health of our bodies. Many of us have this goal, but more often than not it remains a lofty goal that we rarely take the time to achieve.
However, if an individual decides they are ready to make the sacrifices necessary for proper muscle growth, actively executing those three specific keys to increasing hypertrophy is going to help you see results quickly. You simply need to dedicate yourself to see those changes.
