True Blood is a story set in a fictional town called Bon Temps, in the heart of the State of Louisiana, United States. The series itself is adapted from the books known as The Sookie Stackhouse Series and also The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The author is Charlaine Harris, who lives in southern Arkansas.
The show is currently being broadcast as Season 2 and hosted by the premium cable network company Home Box Office (HBO) in the United States, and is also produced in part by HBO and also by Alan Ball’s own production company, which goes by the intriguing name Your Face Goes Here Entertainment.
Alan Ball gained recognition as the writer of the hit movie American Beauty and as the producer of the HBO serial Six Feet Under.
The initial showing of True Blood took place on the 7th September 2008 and Season 2 began on the 14th June 2009. Viewers have a total of 12 episodes of Season 2 to look forward to and then a further Season 3 will begin to be filmed before Christmas of this year, just to make fans even more ecstatic.
The story of True Blood features the co-existence of both humans and vampires in a small town in Louisiana known as Bon Temps, albeit Bon Temps is actually fictional, as are the vampires, I think.
The main plot behind both the books and the True Blood movie is based on Sookie Stackhouse, played by the actress Anna Paquin. Anna Paquin claimed fame back in 1994 when she was awarded an Academy Award for best supporting actress in the film The Piano.
In the series, Anna Paquin plays the main character Sookie Stackhouse, who is a telepathic waitress. She meets and falls in love with Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer), a vampire, after she finds she is unable to read his mind. This first series, although starting out relatively slowly with regards to viewing figures, soon gained popularity and also won a number of awards including that of a Golden Globe.
The series soon gained popularity and won a Golden Globe amongst others. Alan Ball, the series creator, previously worked on the hit series known as Six Feet Under, the finale of which was in October 2005. Ball then signed a two year contract with HBO and hence True Blood was borne.
On a day wile waiting for a dental appointment, Mr Ball decided to go into his local Barnes and Noble book store where he came across Charlaine Harris latest novel - Dead Until Dark which is the initial book of The Sookie Stackhouse Series.
Mr Ball quickly set his mind upon the idea that this novel should be made into a television serial and therefore approached Charlaine Harris with the conception. She agreed even though she had been approached previously with similar proposals. She liked Balls enthusiasm and took well to his vision for how the book should be created into a television drama.
