All horse racing surfaces are flat, but some of the surfaces that races are held on are dirt, polytrack, or even grass.
There are three traditional types of horse racing: pedigree competition quarter horse racing, and strap up racing. During the horse racing world there are some high profile races. Maybe the important competition is the Kentucky Derby, which is held each spring.
This event is essentially a social event that is surrounded with parties luncheons, and even the custom of ladies wearing nice clothes and enormous hats while the men turn up clothed to the races in go well with.
However, the race is not just about the fashion. It is about the winning horse really. The Kentucky Derby paired with the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes races make up the Triple Crown. Winning all three of these with one horse is by far the biggest achievement in horse racing.
