You can get access to your credit report in many different ways. A lot of the ways are simpler than others, but no matter how difficult it is you need to realize that it is necessary, if you want to stay on top of your credit, to check your credit score at least once a year. There are a multitude of different websites online that offer free credit reports, but by and large they only provide these reports for a short period of time. If you are looking at wanting unlimited access to viewing your credit report no matter what time of day or night it is, there are some subscription-based websites that will allow you to purchase access to that.
These services that require you to pay a monthly membership fee usually offer more than just a simple route credit report. Normally with these services, the amount of options that they have available for you will determine how much the membership is. A lot of these sites will offer notifications by e-mail of any activity that happens to your credit report. If you’re worried about identity theft then this could be a really great option for you to consider. This option will allow you to view any of the activity that might be happening to your credit report so you know what is happening at all times.
Checking your credit report periodically is important and should be taken seriously. With a yearly review, you will be able to determine whether or not activity on your report was authorized by you. If you notice activity that was not done with your permission, you can take steps to correct the error. Not monitoring your report may have devastating consequences. An identity theft case, depending on the severity, may take years to correct. You will not want to find yourself in this position especially if it can be prevented.
Normally your bank or credit union is going to provide you with a free credit report when you request one once a year. Most banks will supply this to you free of charge. If you apply for a loan during that time frame, normally they will give you a copy of your credit report at that time to. Not all financial institutions are created equally though, so you need to make sure about their policies.
Any time you apply and are denied a service based on your credit, you are entitled to a free credit report from the company or companies they receive their information from. For example; if you apply for a credit card or a cell phone and are refused based on your credit score, you will receive a letter. This letter will indicate the reason for your denial and allow you to request a report for free. Generally, your request will have to be made in writing, but the instructions to receive the report will be included in the letter.
Make sure to keep track of your credit score and check your report regularly. No one else will be checking your report for you and you will be required to make a specific request to see it. Although there are many different ways to get your report, the immediate and most convenient are generally the most expensive. However, as long as you continue to review your history, you are far less likely to be one of the many victims of identity theft.
