One of the hardest things to deal with as a teenager is acne. At a time in their lives, where hormonal changes are causing all kinds of emotional stresses and strains on even the most balanced teen, along comes another psychological problem the skin condition acne. The negative effect on confidence and self esteem is very severe.

However, we are not here to talk about teen acne but adult acne. A large proportion of acne sufferers are teenagers, but it seems that the affliction is effecting more and more adults. What makes it doubly worse for adults, when they get acne, is the actual disbelief that they feel. ” Why at my age am I getting Acne?” Would be the main thought.

The female sex seem to be the ones that are the main sufferers of adult acne. As the incidence of female adult acne increases, so to does the interest in hormones and acne and what exactly is the connection. I believe that if acne was a truly ” teenage only” problem, acne would not get the exposure it now has.

When a women reaches her mid to late twenties, she seems to be at risk for this kind of hormonal acne. What is even more unfortunate as well, is there does not seem to be any way to stop the outbreaks until she goes through the menopause. That’s not to say nothing can be done, but the outbreaks cannot be totally curtailed.

Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options that are available for adult acne. When you are coping with adult acne, your doctor may prescribe many types of medications like antibiotics and topical creams to be used together so that you can combat acne from multiple angles.

The birth control pill has been known to help regulate the hormones on a woman’s body, which will eliminate or help reduce the acne symptoms in women. If you are not already on the birth control pill, and you are suffering from acne, then you may want to try starting on the pill so that you can have your hormones regulated. If hormones are what is causing your acne, then you can definitely notice a difference when those hormones are regulated.

Many women fail to realize that the way you wash your skin has a big effect on how your acne is. If you try to scrub your skin too roughly, it can inflame your skin and cause it to break out even more. A gentle approach is the best approach.

The choice of cosmetic product can be a problem as well. Acne sufferers can of course still use cosmetics, but more care has to be shown over the choices we make. Definitely no oil based products should ever be used.
