In the market today, there are a lot of snow shovels out, and each one brings with it the imagination of its designer to the spotlight. All of them promise to make the job of shoveling snow much easier. You may find that you have difficulty with choosing the right one because of the number of good options out there. Let us take a look at some of the choices you have:
Let us look at the standard shovel, first and foremost. Snow is lighter than soil, so the snow shovel needs to have a bigger blade to be able to scoop up a bigger amount. Unfortunately, the simple approach has caused a lot of backaches and problems; you have to bend down to be able to scoop up properly. While, yes, snow is lighter than soil, it can still tend to get pretty heavy.
A recent innovation is the combination of the shovel with the wagon. Some call it a wovel, and this uses the simple idea of wheels to make shoveling snow much easier. It’s a cute design, all in all, but it may not be a good choice for all as it tends to be pretty bulky and takes up space.
You could decide to just discard the notion of shovels altogether. You may just go for buying a show blower, instead; it’s essentially a lawn mower that has been re-outfitted with fans that blow the snow piles away. While these things are quite effective, they cost a lot of money. As it is a complicated machine, it will eventually break down, more and more often.
The one design I’m excited about though, is the classic snow shovel which has a few modifications and additions onto it. Once you see this type of shovel, you’ll immediately notice that it has a bungee cord attached to the handle. It ends in a second handle, and it uses the cord’s elasticity to add force for tossing away the snow. The cord also lengthens the handle, in effect, which means you don’t have to bend over at all to scoop up snow, which means no more back problems.
