Once you have learned your basic system of chords and strums it wont be long before youll be wondering which beginner guitar songs are best to start with.
The good news is there are 100s of easy guitar songs out there just waiting for you but please make sure youve prepared correctly and dont rush into them. This will almost certainly result in you feeling frustrated and de-motivated.
Now most everyone knows of the classic, standard beginner guitar songs such as Wonderful Tonight or Stand by Me but there are so many more besides. A lot will depend on your own musical preference as each era of pop music has its own compendium to choose from.
One of the most important things to own is a Capo. This simple device will allow you to play in many different keys and avoid, should you wish to, the challenge of mastering Barre chords.
Something in common for all beginner guitar songs is they are playable using the easier open chords. However, even harder songs written with Barre chords can be converted into open chords by your tutor or a little bit knowledge in music theory.
This practice will vastly increase the number of beginner guitar songs available for you to learn and help you to break out of learning just the standard, traditional ones everyone else can do.
Although beginner guitar songs can seem very easy at first glance you should still prepare properly for them. If you rush in before youre ready you risk becoming frustrated and losing motivation, perhaps even (falsely) thinking you have no talent for guitar.
In my experience as a guitar teacher I advise you to have at least 4 weeks of daily practice with chords and strumming before going further. This should be sufficient to prepare you for beginner guitar songs.
As a last word of advice dont try to do it all at once. Separate the elements of the song into individual parts to master one by one. Look at the chord progression and practice it with single strums, isolate the strum on its own and cycle it with muted strings.
Through this sequence youll be giving yourself every opportunity to master the song. With beginner guitar songs, once you master 3 or 4 the rest will come very easily.
