If you are just starting out in the MMO/ SEO business, you have will surely come across a lot of terms that will cause you some confusion. As in any other business, there are a lot of new words and there are shorts for a lot of them. I will try to give you a short explanation for some of the most important words and shorts.

SEO ” Short for Search Engine Optimization.

By far the most used term in the business. The is what it is all about. SEO is a very powerful way of getting traffic to your site. It basically is methods that make your site get a high position on the search engine results pages. We separate SEO into two parts, Off page and On page Optimization.

On-page

The term itself is quite self explained, as it refers to the SEO that we do ON our page. The main object of on page optimization is to let the search engines know, without a doubt, what you site is about. What we do is choosing one or several keywords, and incorporate this into the URL, title, description, post titles and our content in a way that the search engines like.

Off-page

Off page optimization is usually just about one thing: backlinks. If we want to be extremely precise it is all about keyword anchored backlinks. While you may not know this, keyword anchored backlinks makes up about 90% of how your sites ranks with the different keywords.

MMO - short for Make Money Online

This term refers to the way that you can make money on the internet. It includes all means, like affiliate marketing, Adsense, e-mail marketing, click based surfing and even games such as poker and blackjack.

SERPs - Short for Search Engine Result Pages

This term refers to the pages that you see when you are actually searching for a term. The results are ranked from one and down. Of course the page that is ranked as number one for a certain term is the page that receives most traffic.

Keyword ” The term that you or others are searching for.

Keywords are what makes a search engine work. You have to know how to get you site ranking high for keywords that actually have traffic. The more keywords you rank for, the better.

Long Tail Keyword - Long version of a keyword

Your keywords with added words. An example: if your keyword is houses, a long tail of it can be houses with a view or houses on the beach.

Backlinks (or inbound links)

Backlinks are simply links that points to your site from other sites on the internet.

PR - Page Rank

Pagerank is Googles ranking system of websites. The sites are given a number from 0 to 10 depending on their importance in Googles eyes. PR is mainly determined by the number and quality of the links that the site has.
